Welcome, friend.
I’m glad you’re here. I’m Charles Munro, a pastor and author from Tyler, Texas. I want to help people understand what the Bible teaches and live it out. Much of my ministry comes back to two things: what it means to be the church and what it means to live a holy life.
What should the church look like?
When I read the New Testament, I don’t see a church built around people showing up to watch a service. I see believers sharing their lives and taking responsibility for one another. They gathered around the apostles’ teaching, broke bread together, and prayed. They knew when someone needed help, and they did something about it.
I believe every Christian has a part in that. Pastors are called to shepherd and equip people, but they aren’t supposed to do all the ministry. God has given His people gifts to use for the good of the whole body. When we gather, there ought to be room for believers to contribute, with Scripture guiding what we do.
Jesus prayed that His followers would be one, just as He and the Father are one (John 17:20–23). I don’t believe the many forms of denominationalism we see today reflect that kind of unity. His church needs to get back to making the main thing the main thing. And the main thing is Jesus.
That doesn’t mean doctrine doesn’t matter. It does. The Bible must remain our final authority. But our loyalty belongs to Christ, and we shouldn’t let denominational labels keep us from recognizing one another as members of His body.
That conviction is part of the heart behind my ministry. I want to see the church become a people who truly belong to one another, with Jesus at the center of our life together.
Taking holiness seriously
The Bible calls believers to be holy. That means being set apart for God, and it should affect how we live when nobody else is watching. It goes deeper than looking religious. It has to do with the condition of our hearts and our willingness to obey Him.
We don’t live holy lives to earn salvation. We’re saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Holiness is our response to that grace. We don’t work for our salvation; we work from it.
That growth takes place over a lifetime as the Holy Spirit works in us. When He shows us sin, we need to deal with it honestly. We need time in the Word and in prayer, and we need other believers who will encourage us and tell us the truth. None of us has outgrown the need for grace.
A church that takes holiness seriously should also be willing to serve. If we know someone is hurting and have the means to help, our faith ought to move us to do something.
Walking with God, together
My books and the reflections you’ll find here grow out of these convictions. My hope is that they will encourage you to open your Bible, examine your heart, and put your faith into practice. I want to help believers think carefully about what Scripture teaches and take the next faithful step in following Jesus.
My invitation is simple: let’s walk with God, take His Word seriously, and encourage one another to live as His people.
